Sadler said "Yes!" to carrots!

Tonight, we tried pureed sweet baby carrots for the first time. I was expecting Sadler to reject them, because so far he has only taken to eating pureed pears or pureed apples. He wasn't too sure if he liked the initial bite, but he gave it another try. He ended up eating all 4 ounces of carrots with two tablespoons of rice mixed in! That is quite a lot of food for such a little guy! As you can see from the pictures, he was wearing some of the carrots! He is so enthusiastic about feeding himself, he ends up being a messy eater. It doesn't matter, we just give him a bath afterwords anyway! The beta carotene in the carrots had stained his face a little, leaving Sadler looking like he had gotten a bad spray tan!

Later this week, we are expecting some flash frozen baby food purees from Jacks Harvest that are blends of two or three different fruits or vegetables, along with mild seasonings. I am looking forward to trying those with Sadler so we can get some more variety in his diet. Honestly, I don't blame him for not wanting to eat the stuff off the shelf- some of the foods smell pretty gross, and don't taste much better.

I'm a hungry baby!

Sadler has turned into an insatiably hungry little man! Just this past week, he has decided that he wants everything I am eating. It's pretty difficult not to oblige him on almost every occasion, because he 'begs' by holding his mouth open and watching your every bite! Since he doesn't have any teeth, I really don't give him much real food. He does love popsicles, yogurt, and most of his baby food. He still hates bananas, but I am still trying to get him to eat them because my baby book recommends to try foods five times before ruling them out.

Sadler has also discovered his feet! He is so flexible that he is able to pull his foot all the way up to his face and touch his toes with his tongue, which he thinks is hilarious for some reason. Since he is teething, he has been chewing on anything he can get hold of, so this is just as good as anything else I suppose!

Another big step is that Sadler has been sleeping in his crib for almost an entire week now. Previously, he was sleeping in a cradle swing, and he has been sleeping through the night that way since he was about 6 weeks old. I was highly reluctant to move him to his crib, since I didn't want to disturb the fabulous routine we had down of sleeping through the night consistently. It was pretty painless, although he did wake up twice the first night. When he woke up he wasn't crying, he was just talking to himself. I snuck in there to make sure he was okay, and I must admit it was pretty cute although it was almost 2 am! Since then, he has slept through the night and had all his naps in the crib. It is always interesting to see how much he has moved around during the night.

Four month check-up!

Sadler went for a normally scheduled visit to Dr. Grubb, our pediatrician, yesterday. He is now 15.1 lbs and 26.5 inches tall! His weight is right on par in the 50% percentile, but in height he is around the 99% percentile! So, I guess it's official: Sadler is tall and slender! We also have permission to eat any foods he would like, which is great news considering he consumes an enormous amount of formula in a day. We are talking approximately 35-40 ounces each day, in 8 ounce bottles. He is totally normal, very healthy, and we couldn't be more pleased.

We also had a visit to the chiropractor, and it looks like our long road of corrective care is almost finished. For those of you who don't know, we have been visiting the chiropractor three times a weeks for the past two months to correct Sadler's torticollis. Chiropractic care is also helpful in cases of colic, which Sadler was experiencing as well. Dr. Smith is very gentle, and actually Sadler is happy to see him. He doesn't cry when he gets adjusted, and we are so happy that we found a solution for these little issues.

Sadler is also getting TEETH! Already!

Typically babies don't get their first tooth until 6-8 months of age, and although Sadler's teeth haven't broken through yet, he is definitely teething. He has started chewing on anything he can get his hands on, and we give him teething biscuits a couple times a day.

Our weather has been incredibly hot for here in Washington the past couple of days, but we have just been hiding from the heat. Sadler is doing just great, he really enjoys being outside in the early evenings to listen to the birds and look at the trees.

Welcome!

I wanted a place for all our friends and family to get updates on Sadler and what is going on in our lives.
Today, Sadler is four months old! Some days, we never thought we would get here with our sanity intact! Alas, we have made it and all the struggles in the beginning have made these days upon us all the more sweeter. Sadler is a little bit of a handfull, but we love having such a fiesty little guy around that is so full of personality and spunk! James and I honestly don't remember what life was like before pregnancy and parenthood...what did we used to do with ourselves??
